March Ornament Madness

okay, so it isn’t basketball, but it is a ball of a different sort!  I had loads of fun with March ornaments:

First up is Baby It’s Cold Outside – last fall’s freebie from The Cricket Collection. This is the Shabby Chic colorway, and I am delighted with how it turned out! Given all the snow that is falling as I type, this little overcoat makes me long for some spring weather!

I am enjoying my Halloween stitching too – this is Jeanette Douglas’s Halloween Pumpkin.  Nancy chose this lovely piece full of specialty stitches for our Halloween ornie SAL – great pick!  I think my favourite bits are the spiders!!

Here is Outside My Window by Lynn’s Prints, in the 2005 JCS Ornament issue.  Sure wish we had visits from cardinals here in southern Alberta!  I remember them fondly from our time in southern Ontario.

And finally, my finish it up project is this lovely PS ornie that Jennifer sent along.  Isn’t it cute?  I hate to admit it, I saw a child building 3 large snowmen yesterday!

So I have to ask, is it spring where you are?

Lynne Mc’s Surprise Post Winner

Back in January, Lynne Mc was the first person to leave a comment after the 22,000 hit on my blog, and she won a free ornament finish!  Well, it did not turn out to be an ornament after all – here is the piece Lynne chose:

This is The Rose Heart pincushion from Ewe & Eye and Friends. I used a mat for the base so it would have more stability, and so the pins could not stick thru. Cute, cute, cute!

Thanks for visiting and leaving comments Lynne!

Congratulations Meari!

You were the first person to post after the 23000 hit on the blog, and you win a free ornament finish!  Pick out an ornament and let me know how you would like it finished, and I will get it done and mail it back – simple as that!

See, leaving comments can pay off 🙂

February’s Loose Ends

For a short month, there was a lot going on in February!  In addition to the ornament and the SAL pieces, I finished a square on my longtime UFO – Chatelaine’s Waterlily Quilt!  I am so happy to be working away on this one again.  I stitched the first four blocks way back in 2008, and then stitching took the back seat to knitting.  This is the first block of 2011:

Would you believe there is 3 hours of beading in this little square?  All together, the whole piece is here:

I have to decide on something to put in the shield blocks – maybe a large dragonfly charm for this one?

And now for something Twisted – socks…. that is!

I love the pattern, the yarn, the color – and most importantly, the fit!  Aren’t they something?  This is Twisted, available for free at Knitty:   Knit with 1 ball of Austerman Step on 1.75 mm dpns.

Finally, I dug into my personal ‘finish this up’ stack, and found these two little pieces!  Both were given to me by an online friend.  Here is Happy Halloween – a freebie from Whispered In The Wind, and a lion square who’s designer is unknown:

The fabric on the back of the lion ornament has a Gryffindor crest on blue – my DD loved it!
